O jornal australiano de 18 de Agosto, 1971 noticiava o seguinte:
“Typhoon toll may top 100“.
«The Canberra Times». Australian Associated Press. August 18, 1971. p. 5.

“Typhoon takes nine more lives“.

“Typhoon Rose, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Uring, was the most violent and intense tropical cyclone to strike Hong Kong since Typhoon Wanda in 1962.
Formed: August 9, 1971; Dissipated August 17, 1971; Fatalities: 134 total

“HONG KONG DISASTER: Every shipping man must be horrified to see such a picture -aftermath of Typhoon Rose which hit Hong Kong with ferocious violence in the early hours of 17th August. 62 lives lost: over 50 people missing: 313 injured: 1483 homeless: a multimillion fire in a main electrical installation causing a blackout throughout the whole of Kowloon and the New Territories: 37 ships aground: 52 boats sunk: the Macao ferry Fatshan capsized with loss of almost all hands: blocked roads, floods, fire and landslides: these are the facts which pinpoint the comparatively small-sized typhoon as the worst since 1957.”

Fat Shan Ferry sinking, 1971” em
“The “Fat Shan”, a Hong Kong – Macau Ferry was sunk. Most of the deaths occurred on board the capsized “Fat Shan”. Of the 92 people on board, there were only four survivors.”
