Comentário ao quadro referido por Wenxian Zhang: (2) “Ever since the gambling was legalized in 1848, Macau has become know worlwide as the “Monte Carlo of the Orient”. This painting from Harper´s Weekly shows a gambling house in Macau that was patronized by native Chinese and Westerners. In addition to a group of male gamblers, a woman and a child are also portrayed. In the the image at the head of table, a dealer is sorting chips; a pipe-smoking man on the left is counting coins in his hand, while a young woman on the right is wagering her barcelet”
