Macau Artístico - Gruta de Camões

“THE GROTTO OF THE POET CAMÕES, naturally formed by a group of granite boulders situated in the grounds attached to the gardens bearing the poet´s name, is perhaps the most interesting of the many sights of Macau. These gardens, together with a bronze bust of the poet, are a tribute offering to the memory of Portugal´s immortal bard by the late Senhor Lourenço Marques, a great admirer of the writings.

Surrounding the pedestal on which the bust is placed, mortised into the boulders, are several slabs of white marble which will be the seem tributes from the masterly pens of Sir John Bowring, Rienzi, Sir John Davis and others – in foreign tongues.
